How It Works

Founder Greg Bell describes the philosophy of Water The Bamboo in this short video.

What is Water The Bamboo?

Water The Bamboo is really just a metaphor to remind us that all great success takes time and work.  When you water giant timber bamboo in the first year, you see nothing. In the second year, you see nothing. In the third year, you see nothing.  In the fourth year, it will suddenly rocket 90 feet in just 60 days! Bamboo farmers know you need to water the bamboo a long time before you see any sign of success.  I wrote a book as a step-by-step guide to help people and teams reach their full potential.

What is it based on?

Water The Bamboo

I’ve studied the habits of high-achievers and developed a practical program that over 500 companies, organizations, and tens of thousands of people have embraced to reach their innate potential. If you look at the accomplishments of Roger Bannister who broke the 4 minute mile, Michael Jordan, Warren Buffett, or Mozart, those are stories of endurance, hard work and determination.

How do you teach people to water the bamboo?

It starts with the seed:  What’s your vision of what you want to achieve?  We provide tools, techniques and relevant exercises to overcome the reasons we all have for NOT watering the bamboo every day.  It’s easy to read a book or sit through a lecture and get excited, but that wears off quickly.  That’s why we’ve developed support groups called Bamboo Circles.  Success needs support. It’s not about doing this alone.

How does someone know what their bamboo is?

Your bamboo is essentially your values and vision.  What’s most important to you both professionally and personally?  Just like a farmer has different plots of bamboo, we have different plots.  Business, family, friends and ourselves.  Your personal vision fuels you to continually water your bamboo. Companies and sports teams need to identify a common vision or a common plot of bamboo to water.
